Melbourne

I'm rather ashamed to say that after 28 years of living in Australia I have never been to Melbourne. I've even driven across from Sydney to Perth... and never been to Melbourne!

Well, now I have and now I know what everyone is on about. Yes, it's everything they say it is. Full of style, culture, restaurants, cafes, etc etc etc. What a great city!

The suburb where my son and daughter-in-law live is so leafy and green. The plane trees overhang the roads making light green archways. The houses are all so interesting and full of character - no two the same. The inhabitants appear to be proud of where they live. Wish I'd taken more photos!!

Leaves were falling around us after the hot summer.

My daughter-in-law and I had a wonderful day visiting, first of all; the State Library where there was an exhibition of old and famous books;

These were 'books that changed the world'.

and miniature books.

and we visited the Immigration Museum which is housed in the Old Customs House where you could "discover the dreams and achievements of those who have settled in Victoria from the 1800s to the present day". Today, one in four Victorians were born overseas.

And then we enjoyed the surrounding area where there were large things and....

very small things...
